This page walks one hypothetical driver's year through the math, line by line, so you can copy the steps with your own numbers. For the background (what counts as income, 1099-K rules, records), see quarterly taxes for rideshare and delivery drivers.
The figures below are made up for illustration. They aren't typical earnings and aren't a prediction of what you'll make.
Use what the apps paid you for the year, including tips and bonuses, across every app you drive for. Example: $45,000 in total payouts.
The 2026 IRS business rate is 72.5¢ per mile for January 1 to June 30 and 76¢ per mile for July 1 to December 31. Example: 4,000 business miles in the first half and 5,000 in the second.
4,000 × $0.725 = $2,900, plus 5,000 × $0.76 = $3,800, gives a $6,700 mileage deduction.
The business share of your phone, plus tolls, parking and car-wash or supply costs. With the standard mileage rate you can still deduct business tolls and parking, but not gas or repairs (those are built into the rate). Example: $1,800.
$45,000 − $6,700 − $1,800 = $36,500 net profit.
| Line | Amount |
|---|---|
| Self-employment tax ($36,500 × 92.35% × 15.3%) | $5,157 |
| Federal income tax (after half of SE tax and the $16,100 standard deduction) | $1,891 |
| Total federal | $7,048 |
| Per quarter (÷ 4) | $1,762 |
Standard deduction only; no credits, QBI deduction or state tax.
For 2026: April 15, June 15 and September 15, 2026, and January 15, 2027. If you start partway through the year, split what's left across the remaining due dates.
Enter your profit from Step 4 in the calculator below. To keep the mileage log for Step 2, DriveLog is our spreadsheet for drivers (a separate template from QuarterSet).
